It does recognise an unbranded one from another manufacturer. I haven't refilled any. Your printer is actually recognizing things backwards. It should always read OEM's without a problem, but it may be an issue or modification in the printer that is causing the OEM not to read. Try cleaning the sensors, if all else fails, contact Lexmark.
