We have an Oki C9500 color LED printer and have started having a lot of streaking in our magenta. We've already replaced the drum twice even though it was supposed to have 75-80% of its life left. The image quality is great for awhile but then the streaking returns after only a few weeks. The local printer tech told me that the toner refills can cause the drum to wear out early. Could this be the problem?

I'm also trying to find out if the OEM drum is covered by any warranty.

What else might cause the drum to go bad so quickly? (we are careful not to expose it to light for more that a few minutes)

Thanks

Hello,

It is not a problem caused by our toner, and the drum has not gone bad. What it is, is that the waste hopper is full. All of the toner that comes off the drum after printing, is carried by a belt, that dumps this toner into a waste hopper section that is adjacent to the new toner hopper section. Once this waste hopper fills up to a certain level, the cartridge freezes up sort of as a safety precaution. The waste hopper just needs to be emptied.

The easiest way to do this is to turn the cartridge on its side, exposing the rubber belt that runs from the drum section to the toner hopper section. On the toner hopper section, you will see a blue lever. At the opposite end of the blue lever is a gear, and a hole with a little tab that is spring loaded. If you take a small screwdriver and push down on the spring loaded tab and turn the cartridge over, you can "shake out" the waste toner. Once this waste hopper has been emptied, the cartridge should work just fine.

This is a fairly common problem with this cartridge.
