Lexmark tries its best to keep its customers from buying anything other than Lexmark brand cartridges. So when refilling any Lexmark product, chips usually render the cartridge useless unless it has a way of telling the printer its a new item. In order to bypass this problem, the chip on the cartridge must be replaced with a new compatible/remanufactured chip. At this point, the printer may still fight the new programming, but you can use basic trouble shooting steps to try and work around the problem
